iZotope, Inc., a leading innovator in audio signal processing technology, today unveils the ANR-B™ Adaptive Realtime Noise Reduction Unit at NAB in Las Vegas, Booth N9107 (April 14, 2008), bringing the company’s renowned audio algorithm for adaptive noise reduction to a dedicated hardware unit for use in real-time broadcast applications.

ANR-B uses iZotope’s advanced noise reduction technology to intelligently identify and suppress environmental broadband noise, hum, phone line artifacts and more, dramatically increasing the quality of audio broadcasts involving radio call-in programs and on-location broadcasting. Unlike other noise reduction solutions, iZotope’s ANR-B actually detects noise in real-time and adapts to changing noise over time, allowing for automatic operation with little to no input required from the user. Zaxcom has debuted two new features for its TRX family of wireless microphone transceivers. The company’s TRX systems are now available with a wireless dynamic range expander and an adjustable RF output power feature, both of which increase the operational flexibility of the unit.

Zaxcom’s new adjustable downward expander algorithm will attenuate low-level noise, making it particularly well-suited for use in applications that mix multiple microphones together. The algorithm pushes the noise floor to 12 dB, effectively extending the dynamic range of the TRX wireless system to 118 dB. TC-Helicon announces the availability of VoiceTone Double, a new model in the VoiceTone line of vocal effects pedals, which allows singers to recreate multitracked doubled studio sounds in live performance.

VoiceTone Double enables performers to produce up to four virtual overdubs of their voice in real time, giving them control of their sound right from the stage. Ten effects banks offer a slightly different take on the various natural and effected doubling sounds and include pristine emulations of classic microshift, chorus and detune. The pitch and timing of overdubbed vocals can be customized to be “tight and intimate” or “loose and lively”. VoiceTone Double ships at a suggested retail price of €249. (more…)

Building on the success of its vintage-improved Alnico pickup series for Strat-type guitars, Tonerider introduces a new left-handed version of its best-selling Pure Vintage (TRS1). Production of the LH pickup has commenced and will be available in dealer stores and distributors in mid-May. The list price is $135.00 US dollars per set.

Finding high-quality pickups with left-handed magnet staggers has always been hard, but the Pure Vintage LH goes further than just switching around the pole piece lengths. Andrew Cunningham, one of Tonerider’s founders and its chief pickup designer explains more: “It’s necessary for us to introduce “lefty” models because we aren’t just putting different length pole pieces into the pickup and calling it a “stagger”. LAWO Plugin Server Offers SurCode for Dolby E In a common development effort, Lawo, Dolby and Minnetonka Audio Software, Inc. (MASI) announce the new Lawo SurCode for Dolby E Real-Time Decoder plug-in that operates in the new Lawo Plugin Server. A Dolby E Encoder module will follow later this year.

The Lawo SurCode for Dolby E plug-in functions as a VST plug-in that is controlled by a graphical interface allowing for full control and recall on the fly, completely integrated into the Lawo production environment. The unique real-time integration allows one or more instances of the Dolby E Decoder on the Lawo Plugin Server to be used in combination with existing Dolby E hardware products. (more…)

Minnetonka Audio Adds Dolby E to SurCode Family Minnetonka Audio Software, Inc. (MASI) announces a new addition to the SurCode family with the introduction of SurCode for Dolby E. The SurCode for Dolby E product line will offer Dolby E software decoding and encoding for various platforms. SurCode for Dolby E Decoder is the first product available for both Pro Tools and Minnetonka AudioTools AWE. This version will be on display at the National Association of Broadcasters tradeshow. DiGiCo joins with Neumann and Sennheiser at NAB to showcase the interconnection of its consoles and Neumann’s AES 42 products on both company’s booths. DiGiCo can be found on booth N9133, Sennheiser/Neumann on booth N8207. Back in 2001, world leading studio microphone manufacturer Neumann unveiled its Solution-D generation digital microphones. These conformed to the new AES 42 data transmission protocol to allow its digital microphones to work in conjunction with digital workstations.

Now, NAB 2008 sees the fruits of a collaborative effort with UK-based digital mixing console manufacturer DiGiCo take this groundbreaking technology a stage further, allowing Neumann’s digital microphones interfacing directly with DiGiCo’s desks. (more…)
